The editor did a great job with his type setting, making the stories more clear, and overall presentation of these classics. It's a great value at an honest price. For years I thought there was only the Wizard of Oz book but I was talking with a friend who said there were many other stories. So I went to Amazon and found this collection of 15 books by Frank Baum, the author of the Wizard of Oz. Each story is as unique and well written as the Wizard of Oz. The movie captured the essence of the Wizard of Oz but you get a lot more detail in the book story. And you get a great cast of characters like Ozma, Mombi, Tip, Thing, and so many more. Great bang for your buck. i grew up reading these books and i remember hating having to wait to find a library that stocked the various titles. it is very convenient to have them all together. however, it is a heavy book so younger children might find it harder to hold while reading and the lack of pictures as well as smaller font might make it less appealing to your junior readers. i would prefer to have all the books in a nice box set but good luck finding them and be prepared to spend a lot more if you do. ...more

I have wonderful memories of my father reading the first few Oz books to me at bedtime, and this one might just be my favorite. I'm not entirely sure why Baum chose the title, as they really barely get to Oz at all in this book, but whatever. The worlds they discover on their way to Oz are just as delightful, frightening, and mind-blowing as Oz itself. I'd highly recommend this as a gift for an open-minded kid who likes fantasy.
